Aims & Objectives

Goulburn Regional Art Gallery aims to deliver high quality regional & national exhibitions & public programs, that include weekly Outreach programs in & around the Goulburn region & to contribute raising the profile of contemporary Australian art.

A high priority is the strengthening of a range of Partnerships in the region, thus increasing public & specialised access to the arts & raising the profile of Goulburn Regional Art Gallery through:

- ongoing partnership with Southern Tablelands Early Learning & Support Program through weekly workshops conducted as outreach visits by the Gallery's pre-school trained teacher, Therese Sheahan to 7 local and outlying regional playgroups providing structured creative opportunities for pre-school children

- partnership established through workshops at  the regional Goulburn Correctional Centre with Aboriginal inmates

- continuing collaboration with the local Lieder Theatre and Youth Theatre resulting in shared events such as Youth Week and exhibition associated collaborations and performances with the theatre

- continuing partnerships with local community art/craft groups ie Goulburn Woodworkers Inc; minority Heritage groups; Multi-cultural Centre and regional Art Award to show work annually in a professional gallery exhibition space.

- consultation and inclusion of Gallery Friends and interest groups, primary and secondary art teachers,  the broader art community and use of social media and visitor surveys, assists to develop the planning of this broad program which will include:

* exhibitions by high profile artists and by local, regional  and national artists

* incoming exhibitions selected on the basis of quality and  in consideration of relevance to expressed local interest

* curating and managing outward touring exhibitions

* exhibitions and workshops by local and national Aboriginal artists

* artist talks accompanying  exhibitions where possible

* free guided tours on request

* weekly gallery playgroup for under 3's

* dedicated Children's area at each exhibition

* special viewing and events for the Friends of the Gallery and for volunteers

* special programming for major events such as NAIDOC; Heritage; Youth Week

* professional development lectures for local art & craft practitioners (with emphasis on gallery/exhibition protocols)through Snapshot Foyer exhibitions

* school groups

* non-English speaking visitors
